We had a great day at our annual Beat the Odds program. Thank you Martin Tenniswood, Elizabeth Boham and Keri Lyn Walsh for the phenomenal presentations. The feedback from the crowd (yes, a full house audience) was EXCELLENT on all counts. We've summarized the speeches from each of our speakers, so you may read along, even if you could not attend!

Breast Cancer survivors can participate in weekly Yoga 101 or Hot Vinyasa Yoga class at Poise Studios
To Life! is pleased to have a relationship with Poise Studios in Slingerlands. Poise strives to build a community bound together by wellness of mind, body and spirit, offering a variety of classes in Yoga, Barre and Spinning. Partnering with To Life!, Poise is offering breast cancer patients and survivors weekly free participation in the Yoga 101 class on Thursday afternoons at 6:30 – 7:15pm or in Hot Vinyasa Flow yoga on Saturday mornings at 9:30 – 10:30 am.
The Poise Yoga 101 class is a basic practice that focuses on connecting mind, body and breathing. You will explore basic postures as you flow through a gentle Vinyasa practice. This is a gentle class but does require the ability to get down onto the floor and back up to a standing position comfortably. Unfortunately, we do not offer chair yoga practice, but will be happy to refer you elsewhere if we cannot meet your needs.
The Hot Vinyasa Flow yoga class is conducted in a heated room - about 90 degrees. Vinyasa= movement with breath. It's not a strenuous class and will cater to all levels as Yoga 101. The primary difference is the temperature and the length of the class. Wear comfortable clothes, be sure to bring a towel and water. Enjoy the heat and flowing poses with traditional yoga asanas and you will leave feeling lighter and more invigorated!
Please arrive at least 10 minutes before the scheduled start time of any class to allow time for check in and to get settled. Once class begins, the outside doors to the studio will be locked for your protection and for the security of your belongings.
If you do not have a mat, one will be provided to you at no cost. We also have towels available at no cost and water available for purchase if you don’t wish to bring your own. We recommend bare feet to prevent slipping, but if you are uncomfortable without socks, please wear socks with grips on the bottom or toe-less socks for your safety. You don’t need special clothes for yoga but clothing that is comfortable for you to stretch and move in is important. Soft knit pants and shirts are generally comfortable.
Experienced yogis are always welcome! Though this class is geared toward the beginner, any level of yogi can benefit by refining the foundation of their practice.
If you enjoy these classes and are interested in more, you can find our full schedule online at poisestudios.com. We have set up a number of discounted packages for you: $100 for 10 classes, $55 for 5 classes or $75 for one month of unlimited classes.
Please register for your class by contacting To Life! at 439-5975 or email info@tolife.org.
