Community Advocate Award: Dr. Rufus Collea, Medical Director at New York Oncology Hematology

We are proud to  present the Community Advocate Award to Dr. Rufus Collea. Dr. Collea is the Medical Director of New York Oncology Hematology. He also serves as the Chief Medical Officer for the Northeast Region of the American Cancer Society, and is a Clinical professor of medicine at Albany Medical College. His area of specialty is in the treatment of breast cancer, bringing his expertise and compassionate care to patients in the Albany and Clifton Park area. Dr. Collea lost his mother to breast cancer while he was a young child. The experience would serve to drive his interest in science and medicine, instilling a strong yearning to do more to help those affected by breast cancer. His professional education included; Colgate University, Albany Medical College, SUNY Buffalo, and Case Western Reserve University.

When asked how he spends his time away from his medical practice, he will speak of wife Tracy and their two daughters-all of whom are avid NY Rangers Fans! The Family attends games whenever possible.

Partners in Hope Award: The Smith/Murphy Family

Kim Smith and Bill Murphy have been a team for over 30 years. Together they raised 2 amazing daughters, Arcadia and Jennifer. In July 2013 Kim was diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. Bill, Cadie, Jenn, and their family became caregivers and advocates. Along with friends and health providers they have been with Kim every step of the way giving hope, love and support. The Partners in Hope Award recognizes a family support network that has faced these fears with a beautiful determination to live life to its fullest and make ordinary moments special.
