Wig Care Guide

Putting on your wig

  1. Remove the protective hair net from the wig.
  2. Place your hand inside the wig, with the palm of your hand facing upward, spread your fingers open, and grip the wig with your fingertips.
  3. Shake the wig to separate hair.
  4. Holding the wig at the front, place it at your natural front hairline and pull it on by the nape. Adjust the wig as needed by sliding it from front to back or side to side.
  5. The wig can be made tighter or looser by adjusting the velcro tabs at the back of the wig.

Styling your wig

  1. Many wig styles, especially shorter ones, need only be shaken and are ready to wear.
  2. Don’t try to get every hair into place; this way, it will look more natural.
  3. If you have selected a wig with some styling flexibility, play with it until you find the style that you like best.
  4. You may want your hairstylist to trim and/or thin the banks or trim the length of the wig slightly to suit your face.
  5. Once you are happy with the style, you can hold it in place with Wig Hairspray, available through your Wig Fitter.

Styling Tips for Different Wig Types

Tight or curly ringlet styles

Shake the wig vigorously, then gently lift and separate the curls with your fingers or a pic comb. Do not brush.

Wavy styles with loose curls

Brush lightly using short lifting strokes to relax the style.

Straight styles

Brush in long, even, gentle strokes from the crown to the ends for a smooth, sleek look.

Storing your wig

When not in use, store your wig for short periods of time (overnight or for a few days) on a wig stand, available through your Wig Fitter.

When storing your wig for long periods of time, fold carefully and put it in the box.

Wig care instructions

Tips for wig care
  • Before washing, gently brush wig or hairpiece to remove teasing or tangles.
  • Use one ounce of synthetic wig shampoo in two quarts of cold water, never hot.
  • Soak three to five minutes, then gently dip up and down – do not rub.
  • Rinse thoroughly in cold water.
  • Pat out excess water with a towel. Do not brush or comb until dry.
  • Allow wig to dry at room temperature. No setting is necessary. Curls will snap back into position when the hair is completely dry.
  • Do not use a hair dryer, blow dryer, or curling iron.
  • Avoid excessive heat, particularly from opening an oven door. Sudden bursts of heat will damage your wig.
Cleaning Process
  1. Put proper shampoo into cool to lukewarm water — ideally around 75–85°F (do NOT use hot water)
  2. Brush gently before washing. Hold it and fold in half.
  3. Put the wig into the water and soak for a few minutes.
  4. Take the wig out of the water and squeeze water out carefully and gently.
  5. Place the wig on a towel and wrap it to absorb the moisture. Do NOT twist or wring it.
  6. Brush gently from the ends to the roots to fluff up the hair.
  7. Swing it lightly to keep the fiber elasticity.
  8. Place it on a wig stand to style. Brush and style before dry to avoid tangles.
  9. Keep the wig out of direct sunlight. Avoid direct sunlight, radiators, or blow-dryers set to high heat.
